Description

Native to the mountains of China, Corydalis flexuosa forms an excellent ground cover for shade in a dense carpet 20 cm (8in) high on humus slopes.

It slowly creates large shrubs thanks to short stolons. Its apple green foliage, deeply cut, resembles that of wild fumitories and hearts of Mary.

Its slender flowers, gathered in clusters, are bright blue marked with white at the end of the corolla. Hardy, it can withstand -15°C (5°F) but requires soil rich in humus and cool in summer to thrive.

Planted alone under trees or in the company of Brunnera macrophylla 'Silver Wings', Heuchera 'Green Spice' and Tiarella cordifolia, Corydalis flexuosa 'Blue Panda' will not fail to stand out.

In a warmer climate, the plant tends to go into dormancy in summer to bloom again in autumn.
