Cerastium biebersteinii seeds

Cerastium biebersteinii, commonly known as silver basket, is a sought-after perennial ground cover plant prized for its small silver-grey leaves and its abundant white tiny flowers. Belonging to the Caryophyllaceae family, Cerastium biebersteinii is native to Crimea. It is a perennial herbaceous plant that spreads in dense 15 to 25 cm high carpets. The star-shaped white flowers, measuring between 1.5 and 2 cm in diameter, appear in spring, usually from April to June, clustered on terminal cymes. The plant can quickly cover an area, spreading in width while remaining low. Its leaves are evergreen in mild climates and deciduous in regions with cold winters.

Cerastium biebersteinii is ideal as a ground cover in rockeries and border plantings. It can also be used to fill the space between shrubs in large beds, creating an attractive contrast with plants with darker foliage or bright blooms. For successful combinations, choose plants such as Sedum spectabile 'Carl', Nepeta faassenii (catmint), Stachys byzantina (lamb's ear) and Erysimum 'Bowles Mauve' (wallflower). Together, these plants offer a palette of harmonious textures and colours while requiring little maintenance in dry or low-water gardens.
