Pelargonium hortorum Flowerfairy White Splash
Pelargonium hortorum Flowerfairy White Splash
Pelargonium x hortorum Flowerfairy White Splash
Geranium, Storksbill
Hello! I just wanted to let you know that I received my last order. I wasn't expecting such a small package. I planted the young plants that I found a bit small, but well, we'll see how they turn out. However, they look nothing like the picture in the catalogue or on the internet, but we suspected that. I'll give them a chance and if they don't thrive, can I ask for a refund? Thank you for your response. This won't stop me from placing more orders, of course, no worries. Thank you anyway. Everything is fine. Monique

Description
The zonal geranium Flowerfairy White Splash is a charming pelargonium with an upright and compact habit, with strong stems carrying particularly bright double flowers. They are two-tone, with unusual strawberry pink splashes and blotches on a very pale pink to white background, engulfing a bright green, strong and healthy, rounded foliage. Flowering from spring to autumn, it is perfect for creating fantastic displays in containers and hanging baskets during the warmer months.
The Flowerfairy White Splash geranium forms a bushy clump with a fairly compact and upright habit, reaching a medium size of at least 35 cm (13.8 in) in height and 25 cm (9.8 in) in diameter. It blooms from spring to autumn, displaying large double two-tone flowers, with randomly blotched and splashed strawberry pink petals in the centre. The good-sized flowers are constantly renewing themselves on a rounded, vibrant green foliage. Its strong and healthy, fleshy stems carry circular, wavy, thick-textured leaves with toothed edges.
Previously reserved for balconies and terraces, pelargoniums are now making a very welcome appearance in sunny flowerbeds and borders. Plant them en masse to create a long-lasting and cheerful display throughout the summer. These plants tolerate drought fairly well, so you can combine them with garden verbenas, lobelias with incredible blues, and black or purple-leaved ipomoeas (Ipomoea Illusion Midnight Lace, Ipomoea Sweet Heart Purple). Create beautiful pots and hanging baskets by using them in combination with vibrant pink or red varieties, Million Bells, variegated periwinkles, Dichondra 'Silver Falls', violets, and calibrachoas.
Note: Please be aware that our young plug plants are professional products best-suited to experienced gardeners: upon receipt, transplant and store them in a sheltered spot (conservatory, greenhouse, cold frame...) at a temperature above 14°C/ 14°F for a few weeks before placing them outdoors once the risk of frost has passed.

Planting and care
Zonal geraniums thrive in fertile, well-drained, neutral to alkaline, well-cultivated soils and in full sun. Geraniums are demanding plants that require regular fertilizer to give their best.
You can plant pelargoniums as early as March-April in mild climates, but you will need to bring them indoors in the case of frost. To avoid any risk, wait until the end of the frosts before placing them outside. When planting in pots or containers, use special geranium compost.
In the garden, wait until the end of April or even mid-May in the colder areas to plant them in the ground and add a special geranium growing medium to your soil.

Hardiness is the lowest winter temperature a plant can endure without suffering serious damage or even dying. However, hardiness is affected by location (a sheltered area, such as a patio), protection (winter cover) and soil type (hardiness is improved by well-drained soil).
In temperate climates, pruning of spring-flowering shrubs (forsythia, spireas, etc.) should be done just after flowering.
Pruning of summer-flowering shrubs (Indian Lilac, Perovskia, etc.) can be done in winter or spring.
In cold regions as well as with frost-sensitive plants, avoid pruning too early when severe frosts may still occur.
The harvesting period indicated on our website applies to countries and regions in USDA zone 8 (France, England, Ireland, the Netherlands).
In colder areas (Scandinavia, Poland, Austria...) fruit and vegetable harvests are likely to be delayed by 3-4 weeks.
In warmer areas (Italy, Spain, Greece, etc.), harvesting will probably take place earlier, depending on weather conditions.
The sowing periods indicated on our website apply to countries and regions within USDA Zone 8 (France, UK, Ireland, Netherlands).
In colder areas (Scandinavia, Poland, Austria...), delay any outdoor sowing by 3-4 weeks, or sow under glass.
In warmer climes (Italy, Spain, Greece, etc.), bring outdoor sowing forward by a few weeks.
The planting period indicated on our website applies to regions in USDA Zone 9a (East Coast and Midlands: Dublin, Wexford, Waterford, Kilkenny, Portlaoise). It will vary depending on where you live:
- On the west coast and in the north-west (Galway, Limerick, Sligo, Donegal, Westport), delay planting by 1 to 2 weeks in spring and bring it forward by 1 to 2 weeks in autumn compared to the dates given, preferably choosing periods without strong winds.
- In the inland hills and plateaus (Wicklow Mountains, Macgillycuddy’s Reeks, Connemara, Killarney), it is best to plant in spring (April–May) or autumn (September–October), avoiding periods of waterlogged soil in winter and strong winds, which pose the main risk to newly planted trees in these areas.
The flowering period indicated on our website applies to regions in USDA Zone 9a, such as the East Coast and Midlands, including Dublin, Wexford, Waterford, Kilkenny and Portlaoise.
This will vary depending on where you live:
- On the west coast and in the northwest (Galway, Limerick, Sligo, Donegal and Westport), it will be delayed by one to two weeks compared to the given dates, due to stronger Atlantic winds and less spring sunshine.
- In the inland hills and plateaus (the Wicklow Mountains, the Macgillycuddy's Reeks, Connemara and Killarney), flowering will be delayed by two to three weeks. Flowering mainly occurs between May and July, with the limiting factors being less frost and more of the excessive humidity, strong winds and lack of sunshine that are characteristic of these areas.
