Hello, I regularly order from Promesses de fleurs, and I am always very satisfied. The delivery is fast and done in a very professional manner. The plants arrive in good condition. I had to ask for information, and even in that aspect, it was okay. The conditions of my last orders were just like before (roses, surfinias, columbines), and I am confident that everything will be perfect as before in the future. Thank you. Kind regards.

Description

Pelargonium 'Rouletta', (also known as 'Mexikanerin'), bears semi-double bicoloured flowers. They are a bright red-pink with a white centre, clustered in round bouquets on a trailing and well-branched plant. Its compact growth consists of sturdy stems and beautiful bright green leaves. It blooms from May to September. It is ideal for flower pots, hanging baskets, and borders. This old variety has proven itself with its ease of cultivation, floriferous nature, and low-maintenance needs. It thrives in flower pots, hanging baskets, and planters.

Ivy-leaf geraniums are derived, among others, from Pelargonium peltatum, a plant from the Geraniaceae family that is native to the coastal region of the Cape Province in South Africa. This species forms creeping or spreading stems, with foliage similar to ivy. The hybrids we know as ivy geraniums have the same semi-trailing habit and increased floriferousness. 'Rouletta', obtained in the 1960s, was the first to display bicoloured flowers. The plant exhibits a rapid growth rate and vigorous, compact vegetation. It forms a round and trailing clump, 45cm (18in) tall and 50cm (20in) in diameter, composed of numerous flexible and green stems adorned with bright dark green and shiny foliage, with five pointed lobes. The slightly fleshy and aromatic peltate leaves are discreetly marked with a light brown area. The semi-double flowers are grouped in large terminal bouquets, 5 to 7cm (2 to 3in) in diameter. In peltatum geraniums, variegated flowers are the result of the action of a (harmless) virus present in the plant's tissues.

Ivy-leaf geraniums are generous and undemanding plants, ideal for decorating flower pots or flower beds in front of the house. They will bloom for most of the year. They cascade beautifully from planters and balconies. Their flowers create colourful masses that blend together or enhance other plants, whether trailing like the purple or chocolate-foliaged ipomoeas (Ipomoea Illusion Midnight Lace, Ipomoea Sweet Heart 'Purple') or upright like hortorum geraniums, petunias, gauras, or fuchsias. 'Rouletta' brings a cheerful and contrasting colour, which can be used alone or combined with white or violet, as found on the flowers of the 'Tommy' variety, for example.

Please be aware that our young plug plants are professional products intended for experienced gardeners. Upon receipt, repot and store them under cover (veranda, greenhouse, cold frame) at a temperature above 14°C (57.2°F) for a few weeks before planting them outdoors, once the risk of frost has definitely passed.

Planting and care

You can plant your geraniums in the ground or in a pot. If you want to plant them in the ground, wait until the last heavy frosts have passed. In the meantime, you can pre-cultivate them in a pot in a warm and bright place to accelerate their growth.

Geraniums will flower from June to October. They need light, humus-rich, well-drained soil. They do not like stagnant humidity. Do not water them too much at the beginning of the growing season as they are sensitive to excess moisture. They tolerate drought well, but will need regular watering during hot summer temperatures, especially when grown in pots. Geraniums are susceptible to frost (minimum -2°C (28.4°F)).

These floriferous and fast-growing plants are hungry. We recommend feeding them with a liquid geranium fertiliser once or twice a week during the growing season.

Remove faded flowers and dry leaves as they appear to keep the plants looking beautiful and extend the flowering period.
