Description

The Angel Eyes® Blueberry Pelargonium is part of a new generation of geraniums that combine mosquito-repellent aromatic foliage with abundant and long-lasting flowering, in original colours. Its compact and bushy habit allows it to generously fill summer containers. Its countless small flowers, richly coloured from deep red to burgundy with a lavender pink edge, light as butterflies, succeed each other relentlessly for months, enhanced by dense and beautifully crisped foliage, in a vibrant green colour.

Belonging to the Geraniaceae family, Pelargonium Angel Eyes® Blueberry is the result of numerous hybridisations, notably with Pelargonium crispum, whose foliage contains an essential oil with a delightful lemony scent. It quickly forms a rounded, branching tuft with a rather upright habit, reaching a height of 45cm (18in) and a diameter of 40cm (16in) in just a few weeks. Its stems bear numerous small, thick leaves with a beautiful bright green colour, rounded, strongly lobed and veined, with finely toothed edges. When crushed, they release a scent of lemon geranium. In May, clusters of small velvety flowers measuring about 2cm (1in) appear, interspersed between the leaves. They consist of two large upper petals and three lower petals. Their colour is rich in shades of purple, dark red, violet and brown, with a highly contrasting border of pink-mauve. They cover almost the entire plant until autumn. If you wish to keep this geranium for the following year, you can protect it from frost by bringing it inside to a veranda (it cannot tolerate temperatures below 0°C (32°F)).

'Angel Eyes® Blueberry' is a very floriferous and colourful geranium that is more than able to fill a container by itself, due to the density of its foliage, the abundance of its flowers and the range of shades it offers. However, it works wonders alongside pink, mauve or white Petunias and Surfinias. If you want to accentuate the "butterfly" effect, place it alongside Lobelias or Nemesias with fluffy blooms.

Note: Please note that our young plug plants are professional products reserved for experienced gardeners: upon receipt, transplant and store them under shelter (veranda, greenhouse, cold frame etc.) at a temperature above 14°C (57.2°F) for a few weeks before being installed outdoors once the risk of frost has definitively passed.

Planting and care

Plant your 'Angel Eyes Blueberry' geraniums directly in place, in sun or partial shade, starting from April or May depending on the climate of your region. If you choose to plant them in the ground, wait until all risk of frost has passed, as they will not tolerate temperatures below 0°C.

You can also plant them in pots placed in a protected area, which you can bring outside in May. Geraniums require a rich soil. In pots, regular watering is necessary in summer. Regularly apply geranium fertiliser. You can keep your geraniums by bringing them inside to a veranda or cold greenhouse in winter.
