My hanging baskets bloomed throughout the warm season, from May to mid-October, even though 2021 started off very cold. I will try to overwinter them, otherwise I will sign up for a new round next year.

Description

This Nemesia strumosa Sunsatia Plus Little Vanilla, poetically nicknamed 'mirror of the elves', is a fabulous novelty. This adorable annual plant is capable of flowering from the end of winter right through to autumn. Clusters of large cream-white corollas with a yellow heart bloom en masse, covering its upright and trailing vegetation like a cloud of butterflies, creating a truly prodigious effect in hanging baskets and containers. This well-branched and compact plant shows good resistance to adverse weather conditions. It should be placed in a gently sunny position, in fertile and well-drained soil.

Nemesia strumosa, also known as African Nemesia, is an annual plant from the family Scrophulariaceae, native to South Africa. It is the source of many horticultural varieties, whose floriferousness and durability are constantly being improved. The Sunsatia Plus series is one of these successful creations, offering continuous flowering from May to October on highly branched plants.

The 'Little Vanilla' variety displays large cream-white flowers with a yellow heart, fragrant, gathered at the end of sturdy stems, forming a graceful tuft about 30 cm (12in) in all directions, both upright and trailing. The foliage consists of lanceolate, deeply toothed leaves, medium green. This well-branched plant is resistant to wind and rain.

From the first days of spring, the vibrant colours of nemesias illuminate the flowerbeds of cities and villages. On terraces and in gardens these fresh plants, with their graceful bushy yet trailing habit, perfectly adorn hanging baskets, balcony planters, any type of container, and even perennial borders, preferably in full sun. They are easy to grow in the garden and produce spectacular results when planted in containers. Use them also to fill borders in a mix of colours, or in combination with geraniums, lobelias, verbenas, petunias, etc.

Note: Please be aware that our plug plants are professional products reserved for experienced gardeners. Upon receipt, repot and store them under shelter (veranda, greenhouse, frame) at a temperature above 14°C (57.2°F) for a few weeks before being placed outdoors once the risk of frost has definitively passed.

Planting and care

Plant your Sunsatia nemesias in sun or possibly partial shade. They require a light, fertile and humus-rich soil and appreciate a fertiliser application. They don't tolerate high temperatures combined with significant humidity very well. You can plant your nemesias in a flowerbed or in pots. When in pots, these plants need to be regularly watered. Planting should be done after the end of frost, in spring. During summer, in periods of high heat, don't hesitate to prune the plant severely (10-15 cm (4-6in) from the base) between two flowerings to promote the formation of new flowering shoots.
