Lobelia Anabel Blue

The Lobelia 'Anabel Blue' is one of the latest additions to the Annabel series, selected for its vigour, heat resistance, and its endless flowering of intense ultramarine blue. This hybrid forms a beautiful tuft taller than wide, with vegetation disappearing under a quivering mass of intensely blue flowers, punctuated by a tiny white heart. Nothing stops the flowering and growth of this excellent variety that blooms continuously until the first frost. The variable colours of the Anabel series lobelias allow for creating fabulous summer scenes, in pots of course, but also in flower beds or even on a green wall.

The Lobelia 'Anabel Blue' is a plant of horticultural origin from the Campanulaceae family. It is derived, among others, from the Lobelia erinus, a South African annual species, a must-have for container gardening. The numerous branched stems of the 'Anabel Blue' variety form a bushy tuft of at least 30 cm (11.8 in) in height and 35 cm (13.8 in) in width in one season. Its small alternate, obovate and slightly serrated leaves create a background for the multitude of medium-sized flowers that bloom throughout the summer, until October if the weather permits. As they elongate, the flower spikes bear loosely clustered flowers with an airy appearance. Their corollas, less than 2 cm (0.8 in) in size, consist of 2 very fine petals in the upper part and 3 larger petals in the lower part. The blue colour of the petals is enhanced by 3 small white spots at the base. They are regularly visited by pollinating insects.

The Lobelia 'Anabel Blue' finds its place as a standalone plant, in a pot, illuminating every corner of courtyards and terraces. It blends with the pastel shades of pink, mauve, sky blue, or white varieties, in a very romantic spirit, also matching the softness of petunias, the silver foliage of Helichrysum, and the whiteness of Verbena. However, its intense blue shade also pleasantly contrasts with the pale yellow of Bidens, Vanilla Marigolds, or Million Bells Lemon Petunias, especially since its exuberant growth is not likely to be overshadowed by its more cumbersome neighbours. You can even plant it at the edge of a flower bed, especially if you have a small garden, preferably in the sun (not scorching), but also in partial shade. The fascinating spectacle of its flowering never tires; this little plant will always find a place near your home.

Note: Please be aware that our young plants in mini-pots are professional products reserved for experienced gardeners: upon receipt, transplant and store them in shelters (conservatory, greenhouse, cold frame...) at a temperature above 14C° for a few weeks before planting them outside once all risk of frost has passed.
