More information

This mix of sunflowers and climbing plants allows you to create a vegetal screen exceeding 1.20m in height in just one season, very flowered from July to October. The sunflowers will serve as natural supports for climbing plants such as morning glories. The screen thus formed is interesting for hiding an old wall or a tank without requiring the installation of a trellis, to protect yourself from prying eyes... Direct sowing in open ground, in the sun, from April to June.

Description

The annual flower mix "Soleils & Belles Grimpantes" allows you to create a vertical garden covered in flowers and foliage within a season, perfect for preserving privacy or hiding unsightly elements. It can be sown directly in place in the spring, in 2 or 3 rows, at a rate of 5g per linear metre, spaced about 20cm apart. The sunflowers, with their rapid growth, will serve as natural supports for the climbing plants. Together, they will produce numerous flowers of various colours and shapes until early autumn. This mix can also be sown in large flower pots on a terrace or balcony.

This mix is composed, among others, of 'Beauté d'Automne' sunflowers, which can reach up to 3m in height, as well as 7 different varieties of climbing annual plants, including voluble Ipomoeas. The latter spontaneously wind themselves around the tall stems of the sunflowers, in search of light, eventually merging with their vegetal support. The resulting tangle is dense enough to create a privacy screen without the need for a trellis. The plants in this selection germinate in spring, flower between July and October, and die at the end of the season. Their seeds can be harvested for resowing the following year.

Planting and care

Sowing:

Sow directly in place, from April to early June (after the last frost), in a well-cultivated soil, free from weeds, and refined and raked. Sow in 2 or 3 rows at a rate of 5 g/linear metre, spaced about 20cm apart. Lightly bury the seeds. Optionally, roll the soil to ensure good seed adhesion. Germination usually takes 14 to 30 days. Regularly water with a fine rain to keep the soil slightly moist until germination.

Cultivation:
When the young plants appear, water them well and remove weeds. Water regularly. Once established, the plants generally rely on rainfall. Water only during very dry and hot periods in summer. In autumn, at the end of flowering, you can collect seeds and sow them elsewhere. Water well to ensure seed adhesion to the soil.

Plants grown in containers will need regular watering. Use a large volume container (50 to 60 litres) with nutrient-rich horticultural soil.
