Description

A mixture of ground cover flowers whose seeds are produced exclusively in France. This selection includes 17 perennial species and 9 annual species, ideal for creating a varied and colourful ground cover. They will bloom in the first summer after sowing, but the plants will reveal their full glory after two or three years of cultivation. It is best to sow from August to October, in well-prepared and loosened soil.

The plants in this mix like well-loosened garden soil, even if it is quite dry in summer. Annuals bloom 6 to 10 weeks after sowing, produce seeds, and then die. They will leave behind an abundance of spontaneous seedlings. Perennial species will only bloom from the second year onwards, but they settle for at least 4 years and return faithfully every year. The size of the plants that make up this mixture varies from 30 to 45cm (12 to 18in) in height. They bloom from April to July, and some bloom again in September.

This mix includes: Calendula officinalis, Achillea millefolium, Aubrieta x cultorum, Convolvulus tricolor, Dianthus sp., Linum perenne, Erysimum x allionii, Iberis amara, Leucanthemum vulgare, Nepeta racemosa, Petunia x atkinsiana, Sanguisorba minor, Viola x wittrockiana.

Sow this mix in a sunny situation, on a bank, at the edge of a bed or driveway, or at the foot of a wall. These flowers require very little maintenance, other than occasional watering (especially during periods of prolonged drought). Invite nature into your garden: sow this seed mix in a somewhat neglected area of the garden, near an orchard, on a large embankment, or at the bottom of the garden.

Sowing instructions

Sow directly in their final positions, from March to early June, once the ground has warmed up. Remove all weeds from the soil and rake it to a fine tilth. Sow thinly on the surface of the soil and rake it lightly to cover the seeds. You can also sow at a depth of 1.5mm, in drills spaced 30cm (12in) apart. Germination normally takes 14-21 days.

Growing instructions

When the seedlings appear, water well and remove weeds. Collect their seeds when the plants have finished flowering. Prepare the soil once more and sow the seeds again. Water well to make the seeds adhere to the soil.
