More information

A mix of perennial or annual nectar-rich and honey-rich flowers, designed to take care of butterflies and other pollinating insects. The flowers provide a significant source of food for pollinating insects, and the foliage attracts many caterpillars. The seeds are sown in the sun from March to June by broadcasting, like grass, in a well-worked and loosened soil. The plants will bloom from June to September the first summer and from April onwards the second year.

Description

This Butterfly Meadow Flower Mix brings together 23 species of perennial or annual plants with nectar-rich and honey-producing flowers, designed to care for butterflies and other pollinating insects. A true refuge, the flowers provide a significant source of food for a long period, and the foliage attracts numerous caterpillars that feed on them. The seeds are sown in spring, directly in place, in a well-worked and loosened soil. The meadow or bed thus created will flower for several years, from spring to late summer.

In this mix, we find, among others, plants such as dill (Anethum graveolens), corncockle (Agrostemma githago), white clover (Trifolium repens), and sainfoin (Onobrychis sativa), all species favourable to numerous butterflies and useful pollinators. All show a rather rapid growth and some easily naturalise in the garden, self-seeding spontaneously in ordinary and well-drained soil. The size of the plants ranges from 30 cm (11.8 in) to 80 cm (31.5 in) in height.

The flower meadow is very trendy, combining usefulness with pleasure. It creates a countryside-like and very flowery space throughout the summer, promotes biodiversity and requires very little maintenance: watering if the weather is very dry and mowing at 10-20 cm (3.9-7.9 in) in autumn will be sufficient. Invite nature into your garden: sow our flower mixes along the path, near the vegetable garden, not far from the orchard, or on a slope that borders a sunken path, close to your fruit trees, or at the back of the garden bordering the countryside.

Planting and care

Sowing:

Sow directly in place, from March to early June, once the soil has warmed up, in well-prepared soil that has been cleared of weeds and raked. Sow finely on the surface of the soil by broadcasting, then lightly rake to cover the seeds. Roll or tamp the soil with the back of a spade. Water and keep moist until germination. It is also possible to sow at a depth of 1.5 mm (0.1 in) in furrows spaced 30 cm (11.8 in) apart. Germination usually takes 14 to 30 days. In mild climates, it is possible to sow in September-October.

Cultivation:

When the young plants appear, water well and remove weeds. In autumn, at the end of flowering, seeds can be collected and sown elsewhere. Water well to make the seeds adhere to the soil. Cut or mow to 10-20 cm (3.9-7.9 in) at the end of flowering, without a collection tray and without picking up the pruning waste.

Once the plants are well established, you will only water your flower bed in case of prolonged drought.
