A 55cm (22in) long sickle equipped with a thick and sharp forged steel blade for clearing and cleaning the soil. With a natural wood handle and very lightweight, it is comfortable to use.

The sickle is a gardener's tool that resembles the scythe in its usage and composition, but it is much smaller and only used with one hand. Its handle is very short, and its blade is even more curved, forming a half circle. It is used to clear areas that are difficult to access with lawnmowers. It is useful for cutting the foliage of non-woody plants such as potatoes or beans, picking flowers by the handful, and pruning aromatic plants. Some gardeners prefer it to secateurs for trimming perennial flower beds in late autumn.

Technical specifications:

  • Total length: 55cm (22in)
  • Forged steel head with a sharpened edge
  • Wooden handle

This sickle is used to cut green or dry vegetation. Thanks to its thick blade, it is perfect for clearing areas that are inaccessible to lawnmowers, especially slopes or areas overrun by nettles, thistles, and brambles. It can also be used for harvesting cereals, and sometimes for pruning. The sickle is formed by a curved blade that is almost a half circle, with its base fitted into a wooden handle forming a handle. The forged steel blade is pointed at its tip, and its edge is sharp. To use the sickle, one grasps a handful of cereals or herbs with the left hand and cuts at the base by pulling the sickle from right to left.

Detailed features

Directions for use The sickle is used to cut green or dry vegetation. It is useful for clearing inaccessible areas to the lawnmower, especially slopes or areas invaded by nettles, thistles, and brambles. It can also be used for harvesting cereals, and sometimes for pruning as well. The sickle consists of a curved blade, almost semi-circular, with its base attached to a wooden handle forming a grip. The forged steel blade is sharp at its tip and has a smooth cutting edge. To use the sickle, grasp a handful of cereal or herbs with the left hand, and cut at the base by pulling the sickle from right to left. Safety tips: Ironically, using a poorly sharpened tool is dangerous as it requires twice as much energy and quickly tires you out. Learning how to sharpen a tool and doing it regularly is essential. Its use requires calm and common sense, positioning yourself in a way that if the blade slips or bounces, it does not end up hitting the operator. Wear goggles, gloves, and protective clothing. Clean the blade with alcohol after use, this gesture helps prevent the transmission of diseases from one plant to another, but also helps keep your tool in good condition for a long time (the sap of certain plants can attack the blades or make them sticky over time). Store this tool away from bad weather, in a dry place.
