Description

The Daylily or Hemerocallis 'Everydaylily Bronze' is another lovely variety from the recently selected 'Everydaylily' series in the United States for their exceptional floribundity combined with a compact habit. They bloom continuously from late spring until the first frost, producing up to 400 flowers in a mature season. The flowers are nicely rounded in this beautiful 'Bronze' variety, with corollas sporting shades of orange, bronze, and gold. This easy-to-grow perennial is stunning in borders, delightful in pots, and perfect in romantic or natural settings.

According to classifications, the genus Hemerocallis belongs to the Liliaceae family or the Hemerocallidaceae family. They are perennial and hardy plants with deciduous foliage in winter or sometimes semi-evergreen. The 'Bronze' variety, like all its sisters in the Everydaylily series, is derived from the excellent border daylily 'Stella de Oro'. It grows quickly, forming a fairly dense clump that will not exceed 35-40 cm (14-16in) in height, with a relative spread of 50 cm: daylilies tend to spread a bit when they like the soil. The flowers measure 7-8 cm (3in) in diameter. The petals are wide, thick, slightly wavy, and slightly undulate along the edges. Each flower lasts no more than a day, but the flowering is continuously renewed over a long period between June and October. The iridescent texture of the petals enhances the flower colour. The foliage is linear and deciduous, disappearing in winter. Daylilies are plants with short rhizomes and fleshy roots that tolerate dry soils but are more opulent and much more floriferous in cool, fertile soil.

Very easy to grow, daylilies thrive equally well in partial shade and full sun. Some can be invasive, so don't hesitate to divide the clumps every four or five years, preferably in autumn after flowering. Daylilies are often called "the perfect perennial plant" due to their vibrant colours, ability to tolerate any type of environment, and their compatibility with other perennials. Plant them in generous clumps in your borders and beds. All summer bulb flowers can be planted alongside daylilies. 'Everydaylily Bronze' pairs well with campanulas, nepetas, penstemons, asters, chamomiles, or paniculate phlox. On a balcony or terrace, it will be superb for months. The flowers are edible: they brighten up salads and decorate desserts.

Planting and care

Plant your Hemerocallis 'Everydaylily' in well-draining garden soil that is not too clayey and enriched with humus and compost. This will allow your perennial to withstand summer droughts and winter frosts. This variety is easy to grow and not susceptible to pests or diseases, so no treatment is required, and rodents are not attracted to it. Daylilies can grow both in partial shade and full sun, with 4 to 5 hours of daily sunlight sufficient—plant by burying the base 3 to 4 cm (1 to 2in) below the surface. If planting multiple plants, ensure enough space between them, as the spaces will quickly fill up. For a few weeks after planting, ensure the soil is moderately moist, but do not overwater. It is advisable to divide the plants, preferably in autumn after flowering.
