Organic farming
A concentrated arboricultural whitewash based on natural lime milk, to be diluted, which protects fruit or ornamental trees from pathogenic fungi, parasites, and mosses. It also shields sensitive young trunks from sun scorch as well as the effects of frost in spring. This coating is suitable for use in Organic Agriculture. Packaged in a 1.5L tub, convenient for storage. .

Protecta Concentrated Tree Whitewash is a limewash-based coating, an age-old technique for protecting trees from various diseases and parasites. It is one of those winter treatments, known as 'foundation' treatments, somewhat neglected in recent years, yet their effectiveness is proven, as is their harmlessness to the environment. Applied preventatively, this treatment will save the gardener a number of problems and will help reduce the use of fungicides and insecticides during the growing season. Once diluted, apply this liquid preparation to the trunks or the base of the main scaffold branches, with a brush or sprayer, in one or two coats. 1.5 litres makes up to 6L of whitewash.

Applied to dry bark in the heart of winter, tree whitewash provides continuous and uniform protection for trunks and the base of main scaffold branches. It is composed of lime (calcium hydroxide) mixed with clay to thicken it and improve its adherence, and water. Once applied, it provides a physico-chemical protection with recognised antiseptic properties.

Tree whitewash, due to its alkalinity (very high pH), is unfavourable for the germination and development of pathogenic fungi such as fruit tree canker (Neonectria galligena), scabs, brown rot and peach leaf curl, whose spores hide in bark fissures in winter. Its presence also limits the development of mosses and lichens; it suffocates and destroys the larvae of certain pests, which also find refuge in the bark. Furthermore, the limewash reduces the phenomenon of exudation when planting standard trees. Due to its white colour, which reflects light and limits temperature variations, the limewash protects young bark and graft points from sunscald as well as from late frosts. Arboricultural whitewash is recommended for protecting pip and stone fruit trees, ornamental trees (limes, horse chestnuts, during top-grafting operations, etc...)

The duration of protection, for a single application, depends on the quantity applied and precipitation: it is estimated between 8 and 12 weeks for an aerosol application, and 4 to 6 months depending on the thickness applied. A second application the following day significantly increases the persistence duration of the whitewash on the trunk and the base of the main scaffold branches.

No toxicological classification. Authorised for use in gardens. Usable in organic farming in accordance with Regulation (EC) No 834/2007.

Uses and advantages

Main uses Concentrated Protecta Whitewash is recommended for protecting pip and stone fruit trees, ornamental trees (limes, horse chestnuts, during top-grafting operations, etc.). It is typically used in the heart of winter, in January-February. **Trunk Preparation:** Using a stiff brush, clear the trunk and the base of the main scaffold branches of moss, lichen, dead bark, and disease. Choose a day without rain or wind, and apply to dry bark. Use a wide, flat brush. Wear gloves, covering clothing, and eye/face protection against potential splashes. **METHOD OF APPLICATION / DOSE:** **Direct application:** Using a manual/mechanical sprayer on the trunk and base of scaffold branches is recommended, especially during the first 5-7 years. Dilute the concentrate in a proportion of 1 to 1 (for brush/roller application) up to 1 to 2 for low-pressure sprayer application: Dilute the whitewash in water until a slurry is obtained, which passes well through the nozzle. - Avoid application just before rain due to the risk of leaching. - It is essential to check, after application, that the whitewash covers the entire surface evenly. After drying, apply a second coat if necessary to obtain a thicker layer that will persist longer. **DURATION OF PROTECTION (for a single application):** Depending on the quantity applied and rainfall, between 8 and 12 weeks for spray application, and 4 to 6 months depending on the thickness applied. A second application the next day significantly increases the durability of the whitewash on the trunk and lower scaffold branches. **CLEANING:** Equipment should be cleaned with water immediately after use. **STORAGE:** Close the tub tightly after use. Store in a cool, dry place.
