Disappeared without a trace in a flowerbed; my investigation yielded no results (and I'm not proud of it).

Description

A hybrid variety, cultivated for its beauty and high cold resistance, Eryngium x oliverianum has many advantages to being incldued in wild-looking dry gardens.

Called sea holly or ornamental thistle, Eryngium x oliverianum is a tall 90cm (35in) high perennial that likes light, chalky and even rocky soils.

The sturdy stems are often navy blue and bear sumptuous conical umbels of grey-blue flowers crowned with finely cut, electric blue bracts. Fresh or dried, the flowers are highly prized by florists. The olive green foliage, variegated with silver veins, measures about 10cm (4in) in diameter.

Grow it in light, well-drained, even chalky soil in the sun alongside Gaura lindheimeri 'Snowstorm', Verbascum bombyciferum 'Polarsommer', and Salvia nemorosa 'Caradonna'.
