Description

Narcissus Walz is an orchid-flowered Narcissus (or butterfly narcissus) with a very pale salmon colour.

The flower has an original crumpled appearance. The stem bears a single flower that is sensitive to bad weather: rain weighs down the flowers and sometimes damages them.

Narcissus are the most resistant bulbs planted in the autumn and tolerate both full sun and partial shade. They prefer well-drained soil but also thrive in heavy soil.

For bouquets: We advise against mixing Narcissus with other flowers. Tulips in particular, as the stems of Narcissus contain a substance that causes other flowers to wilt quickly. This detrimental effect on other flower species can be reduced by dipping the ends of the Narcissus stems in hot water for 1 to 2 minutes.

Planting and care

Daffodils bloom from March to May and return every year. They are very easy to grow and thrive both in the shade of woodland and in a sunny flowerbed. Plant them 10 cm (4in) deep and 10 cm (4in) apart in minimum clusters of 5 bulbs, in patches of uniform colours or a mix. To plant them in a lawn: lift a patch of turf, dig and loosen the soil to a depth of at least 20 cm (8in) (the height of a spade), place your bulbs, cover them with soil and replace the turf. Choose a spot where you won't mow, as you must let the daffodil leaves wither before cutting them. This is when the bulb reconstitutes itself and prepares the flowers for the following year. However, remember to cut the flowers as soon as they fade to prevent seed formation which would unnecessarily exhaust the bulb.
