This garden tool with a 4-tine head allows you to loosen and aerate the soil without turning it over, to preserve the different layers that make it up while avoiding disturbing the life of the soil. Its ergonomics have been designed so that its use does not cause any back pain or other aches. Essential for gardeners with a sustainable gardening approach!

The four-pronged biofork by Spear & Jackson allows you to loosen and aerate the soil without turning it over, to preserve its physical structure, as well as to avoid disturbing the biotope that contributes to its richness. This garden tool has also been designed to be comfortable to use, allowing the gardener to work standing up while minimising effort. Finally, its steel structure ensures durability.

The classic fork is originally a complementary tool to the spade, designed to aerate, loosen, and crumble the soil deeply, on small surfaces. It is much better suited than the spade for working with clayey or heavy and compact soils. The Spear & Jackson biofork, made entirely of steel, is a kind of fork with a wide head equipped with 4 curved tines, a foot support area, and a wide T-shaped handle covered with a non-slip sheath. It works faster than the spade and you to loosen the soil simply by penetrating the tines. Unlike the spade or tiller, this garden tool does not mix the different layers of soil, does not disturb microbial life, and does not cut earthworms, which are essential for soil health and fertility. The surface layer of the soil is rich in humus made up of decomposing plant matter, which is very nutritious for plants. Invertebrates, insects, bacteria, and fungi that are involved in this process need oxygen, and they suffocate when the soil is turned over, while the deeper, poorer layer ends up on the surface. Use the biofork to prepare the soil before sowing or planting. Thanks to its 87 cm shaft, crutch-shaped handle, and footrest, the biofork allows working with a straight back: the back muscles are not used, even during intensive use, minimising the risk of stiffness or other pains.

Using it requires a little practice:

  • Push it into the soil by sliding your foot into the space in the centre of the head
  • Then pull it towards you by lowering the handle to hip level
  • Make a small alternating lifting movement on each side.
