The plants arrived upside down in the cardboard box. Despite its cracked pot and the little soil it had left, this one seems to be doing quite well. I'm waiting to see how it develops.

Description

Clematis My Angel is a climbing perennial plant that produces clusters of small open bell-shaped flowers from July to October. Its flowers are yellow on the inside and brick red on the outside, all edged with cream. The flowers consist of 4 tepals and almost black stamens and measure 3 cm (1in) long. After flowering, numerous decorative, feathery seed heads appear.

The foliage of the My Angel Clematis is deciduous. It has a fast growth and can reach a height of 3 m (10ft). This protected species has excellent hardiness.

It can be used on an old wall, trellis, arbour, pergola, fence, or even on a tree. This Clematis can climb anywhere with the help of its tendrils.

Planting and care

These Clematis require full sun to be at their best but hey can also be planted in a partially sunny spot. Keep the base in the shade and the top in the sun. You can shade the base of your plant with a ground cover plant or a perennial geranium. A bark mulch helps maintain soil moisture. They prefer light, fertile soil that is not too dry or wet, and most importantly, well-drained. Plant your clematis by covering the root ball with 3 cm (1in) of soil, in soil that has been worked to a depth of 20 cm (8in), and enriched with good compost. Clematis don't like excessive moisture, but you will need to water them in small amounts during the peak season and not directly on the base. Stagnant water can cause fungus at the base. My Angel Clematis does not require any specific pruning. However, you can prune it to 40 cm (16in) from the ground in early spring to make it denser and increase its flowering. Clematis cling on their own thanks to their tendrils. To help them grow, provide them with trellis support or help them dress up the trunk of a tree with a wire. Clematis also enjoy growing freely on neighbouring plants. They can be susceptible to fungal diseases (such as leaf spots), especially in winter.
