Description

The Geranium sylvaticum 'Mayflower' or wood geranium forms in spring bushes of blue flowers tinted with white in the center, perched at 60 cm (24in) in height. The flower measures about 2 cm (1in) in diameter.

This Geranium has an abundant spring flowering from May to June. Its large deciduous leaves are deeply cut.

Perennial and vigorous, this variety grows in shade, it likes coolness and self-seeds spontaneously in soils rich in humus, forming magnificent colonies, spectacular in the undergrowth in spring.

Magnificent in the undergrowth, associate it with golden foliage; Millium effusum 'Aureum', Carex elata 'Aurea', Carex oshimensis 'Evergold', the yellow-blue contrast is superb.

Planting and care

Place the 'Mayflower' Geranium sylvaticum in full sun or partial shade in a preferably moist but well-draining soil. Work the soil to a depth of 20 cm (8in), crumble it well, and place a base amendment such as dried blood or dehydrated horn at the bottom of the planting hole. Position your plant, removed from its pot, by covering the top of the root ball with 3 cm (1in) of soil. Fill in the hole and water thoroughly to eliminate air pockets. In dry weather, it is necessary to water regularly for a few weeks to facilitate establishment.
