Description

The Viola witrockiana 'F1 Inspire Metallic Blue' is an absolutely lovely winter-flowering pansy; its flowers, of a good size, display a superb gradient of blue, ranging from light blue on the edges to a dark blue almost ultramarine near the center. They are carried by short but sturdy stems, which allow the corollas to open widely towards the sky, and thus offer their beautiful blue face to the eye. The plants are compact, early, floriferous, and very uniform. This variety recovers very well in the spring and does not bolt with the first heat, ensuring a long flowering period. Combine it in a sunny border or in a planter with pink forget-me-nots, or with a pale yellow primrose for example.

Garden pansies, sometimes called giant Swiss pansies, are actually hybrids grouped under the name Viola x wittrockiana. They belong to the Violaceae family and are most often grown as annuals or biennials, although they are theoretically perennial, but of short life. The 'Inspire Metallic Blue' variety is a branched plant that quickly forms compact tufts, with a slightly spreading habit, reaching 15-20 cm (5.9-7.9 in) in height and 20 cm (7.9 in) in width. Its flowering occurs early, from the end of winter to the end of spring, or from the end of spring to the end of summer. The 6 cm (2.4 in) wide flowers, well open, light blue, are adorned with dark blue spots radiating in blue veins from the base of the petals to their edges. The center is occupied by a tiny bright yellow and white heart. The plant has 2 types of leaves, the lower ones being ovate with dentate margins, and the upper ones narrower and shorter.

If you love it in the garden, it will be most appreciated in a planter, on the windowsill, so you can have it right under your nose while staying warm. You can associate these pansies with, for example, primroses, Wallflowers, Grape Hyacinths, Daisies, and even with grasses like the Japanese Sedge for a graphic effect in a contemporary spirit. Play with the colours of the pansies, in shades of blue or in contrast with white or warm colours, and you will obtain different atmospheres.

The petals of pansies are edible, their colours will bring a touch of originality to your salads and pastries. To do this, think of growing them as you would grow your vegetables, in the most natural way possible.

Note: Please be aware that our young plug plants are professional products reserved for experienced gardeners. Upon receipt, repot them as soon as possible, in pots, planters, or directly in flower beds.

Planting and care

Very flowerful and fast-growing, pansies are hungry. They need to be fed with a liquid fertiliser for containers once or twice a week during the growth period, watered regularly but not excessively, and most importantly, remove the faded flowers to promote new flowerings.
